Power in the Northern Territory

Grid connected customers in the NT are supplied by the sole state-owned retailer, Power and Water. Of the electricity providers we ranked, Power and Water was lowest of all those surveyed at number 13, in the below average environmental policy and practice category. Power and Water do not offer a Green Power accredited product at all which is one of the principle reasons why they scored so badly in our survey.

Furthermore, as a government owned entity, Power and Water left the
decision of whether to support the Kyoto Protocol to their state government
(which fortunately does support Kyoto ratification). On a more positive note,
this retailer is investing in solar energy via installation of photovoltaic
systems in off-grid communities.
