Power choices in Queensland

There are two retailers available to customers in Queensland, both of
which ranked in the average environmental policy and practice category.

Ergon Energy (7)
Energex (10)

Both retailers ranked closely in the Corporate Policy section of our survey,
with Energex leading because of their support for Australia’s ratification
of the Kyoto protocol. Ergon Energy does not support ratification, citing
insufficient information as their reason.

In terms of energy efficiency, Ergon Energy scored much better than
Energex in our survey. However, neither retailer could guarantee that
they would not be spending advertising budget on the promotion of high
energy use appliances like reverse cycle or refrigerant air-conditioning
and electric storage hot water heaters.
