Climate action 2010: Rebuilding capacity and strategy post-Copenhagen
The Climate Action Network Australia Annual Conference
February 24-25, 2010
Mitchell Theatre, Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts, 280 Pitt Street, Sydney
Why should I attend?
The 2010 CANA conference is the peak annual event for non-government organisations working on climate change in Australia.
This is the only annual event where over 100 representatives of climate NGOs gather to update climate policies, upskill on new developments in climate problems and solutions, plan campaign and research strategies, and network with each other and with leading government, academic and corporate climate change stakeholders.
In 2010, the conference will have a new format: two days of member-only, well-facilitated, outcome-focused workshops.
To be held just two months the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Copenhagen, this gathering will provide the most up-to-date developments coming out of Copenhagen, will explain what occurred, and will guide the planning of the climate movement's response and next steps in seeking a global climate deal.
2010 will also herald a Federal election, and CANA members will participate in workshops to prepare policy positions and strategies towards this election. The workshops will be opened with 'conversation starters' drawn from from all aspects of government and industry into dialogue with non-government organisations.
The program
For CANA members: We commit to providing you with an inspiring, creative and highly useful two days of planning, learning and capacity building on the upcoming key climate events in 2010. View the two-day program here (CANA password required).
For the public: Attend the public opening event: 'Unpacking Copenhagen: What happened, what it means, and where we're headed' on Wednesday, February 24 from 9am to 11am. This opening conference plenary will form “Part 2' of CANA's workshop series on the international negotiations. Speakers will address the machinations of the two busy weeks in Copenhagen and will dissect the meaning of the agreement that occurred. Then the conversation will broaden into a deeper discussion about the role of the diverse climate movement in influencing the UNFCCC, and the importance of supporting grassroots power bases to ensure we achieve a safe energy future. Speakers will be drawn from CANA's membership who attended the Copenhagen negotiations, and from community-based climate action groups.
