Australian Capital Territory (ACT)
Climate change projections for the ACT indicate an increase in evaporation as a result of temperature increases. The mean annual rainfall for the region is expected to change by -9% to +2% by 2030, and -29% to +7% by 2070. Specifically, decreases in rainfall will predominate in winter and spring (Bates et al 2003). In general, it has been highlighted that changes in rainfall will have a significant effect on the frequency of extreme dry and wet year, whereby the benefits of rainfall during wet years will be reduced by higher evaporation rates (Bates et al 2003).
